Plymouth Area League Final
This year’s competition proved to be very close indeed with several clubs in with a chance as the number of games left became fewer and fewer. In the Cornish half of the competition, China Fleet and Looe were tied on points with one game left and they were playing each other! Fleet had the home advantage however, and after a nail-biting match they prevailed to meet the Devon winners, Bigbury, in the final which was held on the neutral course at Looe on the 26th September. Bigbury were the only team in the Devon league to record an away win and that made the difference. The final was held in very good weather and Looe Golf Club were excellent hosts, both the course and the hospitality were first class. The game could not have been closer with Bigbury only emerging victorious after the final putt had dropped on the 18th green of the final match! Well done to Bigbury who used a squad of 35 players throughout the season which is very much in the original spirit of the competition. We all look forward to next May when it all starts again!
