The short game practice area was completed in October 2007 and is a superb, all-weather, floodlit facility which complements the driving range itself. Golfers are now able to practice all facets of this wonderful game in one place and our Professionals are kept busy with lessons on the short game area.
Our Head Professional, Ian Marshall, says "At least 65% of the game is from 100 yards in, and this we call the short game. It consists of the long approach shot, the short approach shot, bunker play and putting.
It follows, therefore, that you should allow at least this same percentage of your practice time to improving your skills in this hugely important area. I cannot emphasise enough just how important this is and how you will be rewarded with improved scores.
Half an hour a week will improve anyone's game and only through practice can you create feel and touch."
Four types of artificial "turf" have been used - 3 for chipping and one for the putting green. The turf on the large (over 3000 sq ft) two tier chipping green will stop a well struck ball just like the best greens, while the strategically placed chipping mats are designed for chip shots to the green from all the situations we find ourselves in on the golf course eg having to play over a bunker.
The putting green will provide a true surface whatever the weather all year round and, on one side, has the fourth chipping surface for practicing "bump and run" shots.
The large bunker provides a face of varying heights and the green is long enough to perfect all the shots you will ever need, from the short distance "splash" shots to the long shot to the yellow flag on the top tier at the back - reputedly the hardest shot in golf to master! In the bunker is the finest quality white sand, as close as it is possible to get to the US specification sand used on the top courses like Augusta, so there are no excuses!
We want our customers to enjoy practicing this most important part of the game in their own time and at their own speed. When you check in at reception you will be given a tube of 20 quality practice balls to use and you can take as long as you like. No reservation is necessary at the moment although the situation will be constantly monitored as space is obviously limited and everyone needs room to practice.
Membership costs £55.00 for 12 months which allows unlimited use of the short game area and gives 20% reduction off driving range balls from 0900-1700 Monday to Friday.
